Happy Independence Day?
The 76th Independence Day of India, an occasion of profound historical significance, prompts a reflection on the state of our society. Amidst the celebration of this day, it's quite remarkable to witness the diversity of responses it evokes. While some partake in the traditional morning parade, others seamlessly slip into their routines, treating it as just another holiday on the calendar. In this dichotomy of observance, one can't help but marvel at the unique ways in which we honour the sacrifices that brought us freedom.
However, while we mark this day, looking back at the visions of our superhero for free nation,
Chandrasekhar Azad with Lala Lajpat Rai, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and numerous early revolutionaries of Bengal. The basic idea of the revolutionaries was to stir the soul of the country, awaken the fighting spirit of the nation, and remind the people of their past glory and to show them that the time has come to stand up and be counted. The fight to revive the soul of the nation.
Bhagat Singh and his compatriots flaunted their ideological stand and politics, “Uncompromising struggle against imperialism, steadfast resistance to communalism and caste oppression, and unbending opposition bourgeois-landlord rule.”
Even post independence, Babasaheb Ambedkar's version of democracy depicts a society devoid of any glaring inequality. He made his life mission, “There must not be a class that has got all the privileges and a class that has got all the burdens to carry.” Have we achieve those?
Well, it's difficult to ignore the irony that still plagues our nation. Despite the passage of years, the deeply entrenched divisions rooted in religion persist, perpetuating conflicts that pit one belief against another. It's as if the lesson of unity that our fight for independence should have taught us remains obscured.
Furthermore, a form of "independence" seems to have taken hold in the realm of media. Once a source of factual information, the media landscape now seems to be dominated by influencers and powerful figures who peddle their opinions rather than objective truths. It's a transformation that raises the question of whether we're witnessing a new form of liberation or simply the rise of biased narratives.
The educational system, too, holds us in its grip, a cycle of pressure and conformity that often stifles genuine growth. Add to that the raucous conduct of our politicians, who seem more interested in being loud and open than in truly serving the nation. And then there's the media, a swirling vortex of manipulation and chaos, raising the question: Are we truly an independent nation?
![]() Anonymous Online Resource | Amidst these disheartening realities, it's sometimes hard to discern that elusive silver lining, buried deep within the pages of a book or the corridors of thought. Nevertheless, a glimmer of hope persists. Even as we navigate this landscape, there's the persistent hope that true independence, in thought and action, remains within our reach. This article serves as an awakening from the mundane, a prod to question our direction. Are we collectively steering towards a better nation, better mankind, or are we unwittingly ensnared in the narrative of movies and series? The answer rests in the choices we make today. |
